George Greer, MD. Greer introduced his talk,
Structuring Psychotherapy Sessions with MDMA in a Research Context, with a description of his work as a therapist psychiatrist providing MDMA sessions to clients in the early 1980s.
* In 1980, it was learned that, in California at least, drugs that were not yet available commercially could be used within a physician's practice if they were manufactured by the physician or by a pharmacist. The State medical board recommended that there be peer review, informed consent and supporting scientific literature when conducting experimental work (California Board of Medical Quality Assurance, 1980). Greer was one of several psychiatrists and psychotherapists who undertook this research with MDMA in a clinical setting. All of Greer's sessions were conducted in San Francisco, California and Santa Fe, New Mexico between 1980 and 1985. A questionnaire designed for screening and preparing the subjects for MDMA sessions was filled out, and lengthy informed consent information was explained both verbally and in writing.
