Deborah Mash, PhD. Deborah Mash was invited to this conference to give a presentation on ibogaine because Israeli researchers are developing a study investigating the use of ibogaine-assisted therapy in the treatment of addiction. Mash gave a brief history of the use of ibogaine as a therapeutic drug, and described her clinical work with ibogaine safety studies (Miami, FL) and the ibogaine clinic in St. Kitts (Virgin Islands) that she directs.
[This clip is poorly framed, but the sound is worth it] Mash described how her attitude has shifted since she first began working with addicts and ibogaine. In the beginning of her work, Mash sought to develop a separate drug based on the structure activity of ibogaine and its receptor targets. She began to see the value of ibogaine as an adjunct to psychotherapy rather than just an "addiction interrupter" with a purely pharmacological action. Mash directs research being conducted with addicts seeking treatment in the St. Kitts clinic, Healing Visions. St. Kitts does not adhere to the Single Convention, which forbids the use of ibogaine (and other Schedule 1 drugs) in most countries.
