None of 150 plasma units from regular donors (75 from the US and 75 from Germany) tested positive for MDMA or MDE. Donors were in their lower to mid-30s (US median age = 33, German median age = 35). Immunoassays were performed on each sample for cannabis, cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, MDMA, MDE and opiates, and any positive screens were assessed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). 15 US and 1 German sample were positive for cannabis and 11 US samples were positive for cocaine. None were positive for amphetamine or opiates. Plasma donors apparently do not use MDMA or MDE, or do not use these drugs often enough for them to be detectable in plasma samples.
