As commentary on a recent program on ecstasy deaths aired in the UK, the author presented a chart on the "News" page of the British Medical Journal. The chart contains information on "major causes of death" in England and Wales in 2000. Smoking-related deaths and alcohol-related deaths are highest, with figures of approximately 105,000 and approximately 5500, respectively. In comparison, only 36 ecstasy-related deaths were reported in 2000. Ecstasy-related deaths appear to be approximately 0.00004% of overall deaths.
