Not-yet-released Journey of Consciousness documentary explores Grof’s life and work
CONTACT:
On August 11, 2019, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) will host a public book launch and film screening at the elegant Scottish Rite Masonic Center in San Francisco celebrating the release of pioneering psychiatrist Stanislav Grof’s newest book, The Way of the Psychonaut: Encyclopedia for Inner Journeys.
The event will honor the vital contributions made by Stanislav Grof to psychedelic psychotherapy and transpersonal psychology. The evening will include a film screening of the not-yet-released Journey of Consciousness, a feature-length documentary by Susan Hess Logeais that explores Stanislav Grof’s story and how his work could profoundly change the lives of many more. The event includes an optional VIP reception and addresses from Stanislav Grof, MAPS founder Rick Doblin, cultural historian Rick Tarnas, filmmaker Susan Hess Logeais, psychotherapist Brigitte Grof, and Holotropic Breathwork expert Diane Haug.
Written in his late eighties, at the height of his magnificent career, The Way of the Psychonaut is possibly Stanislav Grof’s greatest contribution to the field. In the two-volume set (with over 700 pages of material), Grof surveys the worlds of psychology and psychotherapy, Holotropic Breathwork, the roots of trauma, psychedelic and other non-ordinary states of consciousness, the history of art, and much more.
Stanislav Grof, M.D., Ph.D., is a psychiatrist with over 60 years of experience studying non-ordinary states of consciousness, the world’s most experienced LSD therapy researcher, and one of the founders and chief theoreticians of transpersonal psychology and Holotropic Breathwork. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Grof is the founder of the International Transpersonal Association (ITA) and has published over 150 articles in professional journals and written or edited over 20 books. His work has been translated into 23 languages.
Founded in 1986, MAPS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and marijuana. Since its founding, MAPS has raised over $70 million for psychedelic therapy and medical marijuana research and education. All proceeds from this event support MAPS’ non-profit psychedelic and medical marijuana research. For more information, visit maps.org.
