ABC 7 News Detroit Chief Health Editor Dr. Partha Nandi reports on the current progress of research into the risks and benefits of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy as a treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Nandi details the physiological effects of MDMA, explores the history of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, and reviews promising research results.

It’s known as ecstasy, “x,” and, “Molly,” but now the party drug MDMA may be moving from the club scene to the clinic.

The FDA approved phase two studies of the treatment, where ecstasy is used to help PTSD patients.

The results found 83 percent of patients treated using MDMA were cured of their PTSD. That’s huge compared to just 25 percent being cured with talk therapy alone.
