Bicycle Day 2021

On Monday, April 19, join us for Bicycle Day to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Dr. Albert Hofmann’s first intentional experience with lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). LSD is a semi-synthetic compound first developed in 1938 by Dr. Albert Hofmann at the Sandoz pharmaceutical company in Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Hofmann first discovered the psychedelic effects of LSD through accidental exposure to the substance on April 16, 1943.

On April 19, 1943, Dr. Hofmann became the first person to intentionally experience the psychedelic effects of LSD. After Dr. Hofmann first discovered its effects in 1943, LSD quickly became recognized for its possible therapeutic effects. LSD also played a significant role in the discovery of the serotonin neurotransmitter system and the polymerase chain reaction.

To commemorate the 78th anniversary of Dr. Hofmann’s discovery, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is proud to present a list of curated offerings hosted by the psychedelic community.
