The Organizing Commitee of the International Congress on Traditional Medicine and Mental Health: Peyote, Traditional Medicine or Recreational Drug? INVITES: The Academic and Cientific Comunity, NGOs, and all interested in Traditional Medicine, Mental Health and Sacred Plants to participate in the: I International Congress on Traditional Medicine and Public Health: Peyote: Traditional Medicine or Recreational Drug? 20, 21, 22 and 23 of October 2010, Toluca Estado de Mexico The primary goal of this International Congress is to reflect and discuss the legal status, medical properties, cultutural values, biological aspects and social interaction, in contemporary terms of the relationship that Peyote and other “sacred plants” have in the XXIst Century. In the the knowledge that the mass comunication media is bombarding the public with information on the violent war on drugs, it is important to to stimulate debate with regards to the right to preserve tradtional medicinal use as well as religious or sacramental use of these plants or sacred medicines. The International Congress will be held under the following thematic guidelines: I. Medical and Clinical aspects related to peyote II. Social, cultural and biological aspects of peyote (History, iconography, Religion, , Traditional Peyotero groups, sacred sites related to peyote and Ecology of Peyote among others) III. Legal aspects of peyote use (International Law, Federal and State Laws, special cases, and criminal aspects of peyote use and traffic) IV. Traditional Medicine and peyote (healing ceremonies and rituals, oral tradition, songs and chanting and more) V.
