Remembering Lucid News Co-Founder, Ken Jordan

Ken Jordan, entrepreneur, publisher, editor, and journalist, passed away Sunday, May 12th at age 63. Among his many contributions to the psychedelic community, Ken was a co-founder and Editorial Director of Lucid News and will be remembered for his profound impact on us all. Throughout his career, Ken delved into the intricate world of psychedelics, providing insightful coverage on the groundbreaking work of organizations like MAPS and others in the psychedelic ecosystem. Before Lucid News, Ken co-founded several transformational media entities including the web magazine Reality Sandwich, the consciousness network Evolver, and The Alchemist’s Kitchen, a botanical dispensary in NYC. Before becoming a publisher, editor, and journalist covering psychedelics, Ken was an early online media pioneer, leading the 1995 launch of the award-winning SonicNet.com, the web’s first music zine and digital music store (later a property of MTV). As a consultant for start-ups and NGOs, his clients included Amnesty International, Ford Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

The multiple interviews Ken conducted with MAPS founder Rick Doblin reflected his commitment to deeply understanding his subjects and sharing knowledge with the world. Ken recently served as a moderator for the MINDS panel, featuring Rick, at the Texas Eclipse Festival in April of this year, showcasing his expertise and passion for psychedelic subject matter. His journalistic integrity and genuine curiosity earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and readers alike.

I’m deeply saddened to learn about Ken Jordan’s passing. He was a trusted and rigorous journalist in the psychedelic space, and I admired his dedication to his craft. His sudden departure leaves me profoundly shaken by the loss. The swift transition from apparent health to his passing six days later serves as a poignant reminder for us all to prioritize what truly matters in life.

Rick Doblin, Ph.D., MAPS Founder & President

Ken was ahead of his time in many areas of his life. As a reporter, he had remarkable integrity and a vast concern for the people in the psychedelic movement and ecosystem. Outside of his professional life, family and friends will remember his sense of humor, infectious laugh, and an essential kindness that became tangible when in his presence.

MAPS extends its deepest condolences to Ken’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. His absence will be keenly felt within the psychedelic community.
