Science: MDMA-Assisted Therapy Selected as Runner-Up in Breakthrough of the Year

Summary: MAPS is thrilled to receive recognition for our cutting-edge research from one of the world’s top academic journals, especially given our complicated history! In 2003, Science retracted a 2002 paper on the neurotoxic effects of MDMA in primates after MAPS sent multiple letters to the journal and an investigation revealed that the data were invalid. Now, 19 years after the initial publication of the paper, which caused unfounded stigma around MDMA, Science considers MAPS’ MDMA-assisted therapy research a scientific breakthrough.
