Active and Passive Integration Practices

According to the Synthesized Model of Integration proposed by Bathje, Majeski, & Kudowor, 2022, integration can be understood as taking place across 6 continuums. Acknowledging these continuums and seeing past the paradox can help you approach integration holistically.

The Active-Passive continuum draws our attention to the ways we can use varying degrees of activity in our integration practice. Passive activities like meditation and sleep and active activities like hiking and dance can all be part of healthy integration. Or work somewhere in the middle of the continuum with practices such as yoga. There isn’t a right or wrong way to choose integration practices, per se. But take a moment to examine if you are being active and passive.

Here are some ideas of practices on this continuum to help you get started:

  1. Somatic Awareness: Reflect on the sensations and awareness of your body during the psychedelic journey. How can you maintain a deeper connection with your body through practices like yoga, meditation, or mindful movement?
  2. Physical Practices: Explore physical activities that align with your newfound insights. How can activities like exercise, dance, or outdoor adventures contribute to your physical well-being?
  3. Nature Immersion Practices: Consider incorporating nature-based activities into your routine, such as hiking, gardening, or spending time in natural settings, to enhance your well-being.
